The village of Peratallada is situated where the hills called "Gavarres" and the land of the plain meet, on the left of the "Riera Grossa" (a stream). Peratallada, which has been declared a historic area, is one of the most important places in Catalonia with regard to medieval architecture. It is extraordinarily attractive, keeping its ancient feudal appearance with narrow, winding streets. The castle is remarkable for its keep and palace (11th - 14th centuries). It is also worth visiting the Wall (12th - 13th centuries), the church of Sant Esteve (beginning of 13th century) and the defensive ditch that surrounds the village and was dug out of the rock. The whole village lies on this rock. | ![]() |

The Iberian settlement in Puig de Sant Andreu in Ullastret, is one of the biggest in Catalonia. It dates from the 6th century BC to the beginning of the 2nd century BC. It is placed on the land that was assigned to the Iberian tribe called "indiketes". The Iberian culture was born thanks to the cultural influence of Greek and Phoenician settlers on the native people from the Late Bronze Age or the first Iron Age living on the Iberian Mediterranean coast. It is considered Catalonia's first historical culture, with own writing system. | ![]() |
